Brian Asey Gonsoulin is a multimedia producer and advocate for criminal justice reform, who was paroled in early 2024 after serving 26 years on a 83 years to life sentence.
While incarcerated, he was pivotal in establishing the San Quentin Media Center, where he produced and edited over a hundred videos, including 22 TEDx talks and the award-winning documentary “Friendly Signs.”
Brian’s many roles during his incarceration include:

- General Manager for the San Quentin Basketball Program
Since his release, he has continued his work as a Production Fellow, Producer, Director, and Audio Engineer at KALW Radio and the Uncuffed Podcast, and is also a producer for the groundbreaking San Quentin Film Festival, while also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Cinema with a Minor in Reentry through Project Rebound at San Francisco State University.
Brian is passionate about using multimedia to challenge negative stereotypes of formerly incarcerated individuals, actively advocating for a shift from a punitive to a rehabilitative criminal justice system and emphasizes the importance of language in avoiding the dehumanization of individuals.
